Parent/Volunteer NSELL Season Kickoff

On Thursday, March 2, NSELL will be hosting our second annual season kick-off event at the Windsor Club from 7:30-9:30pm.  Members of the board will cover our league's mission, how the league operates, goals within each division, and field questions from our community.

Last year, this event was appreciated by the attendees and spurred additional volunteerism.  If you:

(1) are thinking of coaching or volunteering this year,

(2) have ever wondered what the board does, or

(3) WHY the league is set up in a certain fashion,

this is the event for you!

Food and beverages will be provided.  In order to plan appropriately, we request you CLICK HERE to register for the event.  It's Free!!!

Thank you for your interest and support.

NSELL Tryout Info & Late Fees (Feb 15)

REGISTER SOON!  LATE FEES start Wednesday, February 15!!

If your child is interested in trying out for AAA or Majors, these will be held Sunday, March 5, at Newton South High School (Gym B).  Times are as follows:

AAA Tryouts

3:00-4:00 - interested 8 & 9 year olds

4:00-5:00 - interested 10 year olds

5:00-6:00 - 11 year olds

If your child played AAA last year and wishes to stay in AAA, evaluations are OPTIONAL.

Majors Tryouts

6:00-7:00 - interested 10 year olds

7:00-8:00 - interested 11 year olds

8:00-9:00 - 12 year olds

If your child played Majors last year, he/she does not need to attend.  Attendance is MANDATORY for those children trying to enter Majors for the first time.

Ages are determined based on April 30, no exceptions allowed.  For example, May 1, 2004, means your child is 12 on April 30, 2017.  An April 30, 2005, birthday also means your child is 12 for this year.

Any player not drafted into the Majors will be assigned to a team in AA or AAA.  All players will find a team in one of the three divisions.

Players should wear sneakers and bring their glove, a helmet, a water bottle and bat (if desired).

2017 NSELL Registration is Open

Registration for NSELL's Spring 2017 season is now open!

Online registration for new and returning players is now open.  Just CLICK HERE.

NSELL serves players who either reside in or attend a school within the district bounded by Angier, Bowen, Countryside, Mason-Rice, Memorial-Spaulding, and Zervas.

The T-Ball schedule typically is one 3-inning game a week on Wednesdays at 5:30pm at Bowen Field and division-wide practices from 3:00-4:30pm on Sundays at Bowen. Farm typically plays on Sunday afternoon and one weeknight.  All other divisions have games any day, typically on Sunday afternoon and one to two games during the week with some Saturdays.

As we have done for the past several years we will have the following divisions in 2017 for players in grades 3-6 who are not eligible to play in the Majors or who have not been drafted by a Majors team:

  • AA Division: This division is a developmental league and coaches are expected to emphasize having fun while teaching players fundamental baseball skills. Players pitch, scores and standings are kept, bunting is allowed, and limited base stealing is permitted.  Games should be competitive, but coaches should utilize game situations to teach correct situational play and decision-making.  Players will play a variety of positions.
  • AAA Division: This division is a more advanced league for players who have demonstrated a greater proficiency of baseball fundamentals.  There is continuing emphasis on developing further baseball skills in a more competitive environment.  Players pitch, scores and standings are kept, and base stealing (to third base) and bunts are permitted.
  • Note: Little League age 12 players may play in the minors by waiver only.

Players will be assigned to a Minors division by the league commissioners based upon previous coach evaluations and player tryouts.  Players who wish to play in the AAA Division must attend a tryout (date and time still TBD).  The purpose of having these two divisions is so players are placed at the appropriate level based upon their skills and experience to ensure skill development and enjoyment of the game.

Per Little League rules, only players Little League Age 10-12 are permitted to play in the Majors division.  If your child would like to try out for the Majors then they should be registered for that division.  Players drafted by a Majors team must play in the Majors; players not selected in the draft will be assigned to a Minors (AAA or AA) team by the commissioners.   To verify your player's age eligibility go to the Little League Age Calculator.

Details regarding the tryout schedule for Majors and Minors will be posted later to the website and our newsletter.

If you have any questions or comments, please use the feedback button on the left to send them to the league.
